There are two other major general aviation airports in San Diego, Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport (MYF) and Brown Field Municipal Airport (SDM), but they are mainly used for private aircrafts, emergency transportation, and flight school.
If you’re flying in or out of San Diego, you will most likely be arriving or departing from San Diego International Airport (Harbor Island Dr, San Diego, CA 92101).
There are two terminals at San Diego International Airport: Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. They are located right next to each other at 3225 N. Harbor Drive, San Diego, CA 92101.
Both terminals have designated commercial vehicle lanes and loading zones in front of them, which your San Diego charter bus driver will be familiar with. To ensure proper loading and unloading, make sure your group is all together and head for the pickup zone at the designated time.
Terminal 1: Use the pedestrian crosswalk to reach the Ground Transportation Island.
Terminal 2: Use the crosswalk outside the Terminal 2 Baggage Claim Area.
You can also view the interactive map on the San Diego airport website to get a better view of everything and plan accordingly.
Because San Diego International Airport has limited curb space, your bus cannot idle or wait for passengers. Passenger loading time at the airport is strict, usually around one to three minutes, so it’s important to make sure your entire group is waiting at the curb when your driver pulls up.

There is no designated long-term parking available for charter buses at the San Diego International Airport. Instead, your driver can stage in a nearby lot and pick your group up at the designated time at curbside pickup on Terminal 1 or Terminal 2.
If it takes you past your designated time to get your group together, your charter bus driver will likely utilize a commercial holding lot or offsite parking. From there, you can either meet them at the lot or have them pull back around to pick you up.
While your group gets ready to meet at the curb, your driver will likely stage at a nearby commercial lot. All parking and staging arrangements must be made in advance with the San Diego airport, so you will know in advance where they will be staging.
Your driver cannot stage or park in the airport’s cellphone lot, as the clearance is not high enough for commercial vehicles and is reserved for normal sized cars.
If you’re in San Diego for a few hours or even a day during a layover, you have plenty of time to explore nearby attractions! Below are a few highlights. Keep in mind, if you book your airport charter bus rental in San Diego through us, you can easily add stops to your itinerary to explore the city.
Balboa Park: Home to the San Diego Zoo (2920 Zoo Dr, San Diego, CA 92101) along with gardens, restaurants, and more than 12 different museums, you will want to stop at Balboa Park if you have a layover. It’s less than a ten minute drive from the airport and a can’t-miss spot in the city.
Little Italy: The Little Italy neighborhood of San Diego is highly walkable, offering tons of authentic restaurants along with live entertainment and shops, and is also located less than 10 minutes from the airport.
Point Loma: With striking views of the cliffs along with the famous Old Point Loma Lighthouse and Cabrillo National Monument (1800 Cabrillo Memorial Dr, San Diego, CA 92106), Point Loma is about 15 minutes from the airport and a great way to soak up some culture during a layover in San Diego.

We recommend arriving at least three hours prior to your flight to ensure you and your group have enough time to meet up, go through security, and find your plane, especially during busier travel seasons.
You will give your flight information to your driver, who can be parked nearby waiting for your group. You can give them a call when you’re ready to be picked up at the curb.
It’s best to wait inside the terminal instead of on the curbside if your group isn’t fully gathered. The curbside has high foot traffic and could be chaotic or confusing.
Like all major cities, traffic at the San Diego International Airport is higher during rush hour and can cause backups on Harbor Drive. We recommend giving yourselves an extra 15 to 30 minutes if you are traveling during morning or afternoon rush hour.
